Description

Appium is a widely adopted, open-source solution for mobile test automation that works seamlessly with native, hybrid, and mobile web applications. It enables automated testing of iOS and Android apps by leveraging the WebDriver JSON Wire Protocol and established automation frameworks such as Selenium WebDriver. Unlike several alternative mobile automation tools such as KIF, Calabash, MonkeyTalk, and Frank, which often require embedding additional agent libraries into the app under test, Appium operates without modifying the app under test. This approach keeps the tested application identical to the version submitted to app stores and prevents issues that can arise from removing automation components later.
Built on a Node.js server architecture, Appium simplifies the automation of both native and hybrid mobile applications. Appium allows teams to write test scripts in multiple programming languages and frameworks, instead of limiting them to a single technology stack. Currently, Appium supports iOS and Android platforms, with extended browser support, including Firefox, planned for future releases.
