Description

This course covers Oracle 21c DBA, the latest innovation release of Oracle’s database technology. Oracle 21c features a shorter support period and significant architectural changes. It is the first version to support only the Container Database (CDB) architecture, so traditional non-CDB databases cannot be created in 21c. Oracle Database 21c is the latest advancement in one of the world’s most widely used database platforms. It is available on Oracle Cloud and on-premises for Linux environments, including Exadata systems.
Organizations can upgrade directly to Oracle Database 21c from the following versions:
  • Oracle Database 19c
  • Oracle Database 18c
  • Oracle Database 12c Release 2 (12.2)
Key Enhancements in Oracle Database 21c:
  • Blockchain Tables
  • Immutable Tables
  • Oracle Machine Learning updates
  • Native JSON Data Type
  • SQL Macros
  • In-Database JavaScript Execution
  • Enhanced tools to compare, explain plans, and cursors
Innovation releases have shorter support cycles than long-term releases such as Oracle Database 19c. They provide early access to new features but do not receive extended support. For example, Oracle 21c offers only two years of Premier Support. Long-term releases typically provide five years of Premier Support and an additional three years of Extended Support. Due to these support benefits, many professionals choose to maintain or upgrade production environments to stable long-term releases such as Oracle Database 19c, which offers Premier Support until April 30, 2024, followed by Extended Support.
